Success for two CluneTech companies at the National Fintech Awards

03 October 2024, Dublin & Kilkenny, Ireland. Kilkenny-headquartered software technology group, CluneTech, took home two awards at the National Fintech Awards, held in the Mansion House, Dublin, on Wednesday evening, 02 October.

The inaugural National Fintech Awards were established to celebrate the exceptional achievements of the entire Irish Fintech industry, recognising those who have demonstrated exceptional innovation, leadership, and growth in this dynamic and constantly evolving sector.

Taxback International, a CluneTech company, was recognised as Fintech Company of the Year, an award which was won by another CluneTech company, TransferMate Global Payments, in 2023.

Taxback International is a global leader in VAT technology, providing innovative solutions that help businesses automate complex tax processes, reduce costs, and ensure full compliance with local and international tax regulations.

Taxback International’s platform, Comply, played a pivotal role in securing this award. Comply revolutionizes tax compliance by automating the entire process and integrating real-time data processing, which reduces errors by up to 90%. This approach not only minimizes the risk of non-compliance but also sets a new standard for the industry.

In addition to enhancing accuracy, Comply significantly reduces compliance processing time and lowers costs, making it one of the most efficient solutions on the market.

Catherine Quirke, Board Director, added:

“This award highlights the exceptional capabilities of Comply and the trust that our clients place in us. Our mission is to revolutionize VAT compliance, and this recognition from the fintech community reinforces that we’re making a meaningful impact.”

In addition, Joanna Murphy, CEO of Sprintax and Taxback, was awarded “Fintech Pioneer of the Year” honouring her significant contributions to the Irish fintech sector.

Joanna Murphy, CEO, Sprintax, who was awarded Fintech Pioneer of the Year

Joanna Murphy is the Chief Executive Officer of Taxback and its US counterpart, Sprintax. The company specializes in tax technology, providing a suite of software solutions which simplify tax determination, withholding, tax return filing and reclaim for individuals and organisations globally. Joanna is responsible for leading the corporate direction and strategic vision for the group, driving business expansion, with the goal of delivering excellence in technology and service to a global customer base.

On the night, Joanna spoke of the company’s latest technology launch, Sprintax Dividends, a cross-border tax reclaim software solution which supports organisations and individual investors to maximise their return on investment by reclaiming cross-border dividend withholding tax (DWT), which is typically withheld on overseas investments.

Accepting the award, Joanna Murphy said:

"I am incredibly honoured to receive the FinTech Pioneer of the Year Award. This recognition is a testament to the innovative work we're doing at Sprintax and the dedication of our fantastic team. I owe an immense gratitude too, to our Founder and Chairman, Terry Clune, for his unwavering support and leadership. Together, we are pushing the boundaries of what's possible in the fintech space, and I couldn't be prouder of what we've achieved and the exciting future ahead.'

Welcoming both awards, CluneTech CEO and Founder, Terry Clune said:

“On behalf of CluneTech, we are honoured to have been recognised in two separate categories at the 2024 National Fintech Awards.

For Taxback International to be awarded Fintech Company of the Year is a tremendous honour, especially given the company’s evolution in the last four years. When Covid hit, we faced uncertainty as our revenue model previously relied on corporate travel. Thankfully, we embraced the challenge, adapted, and redirected resources to develop Comply, a world-leading compliance software.

I would also like to give a special mention to Sprintax and Taxback CEO, Joanna Murphy, who was awarded Fintech Pioneer of the Year. I know I speak for everyone at CluneTech when I say that Joanna could not be a more deserving winner. This recognition is testament to her passion and commitment to innovation, both of which know no bounds.

Together, with a phenomenal team and extraordinary leaders, we look forward to building on this recognition and continuing our journey of innovation and excellence in the fintech industry.”
